International Festival for Artisans, which got artisans from 33 Islamic Countries and was organized 11th times by Pendik Municipality this year, had broad participation in the festival area. Justice and Development Party’s (AK Party) Istanbul Deputy, Erol Kaya; Mayor of Pendik, Dr. Kenan Şahin; and Director General of IRCICA Assoc. Prof. Halit Eren attended the ceremony.
Pendik Municipality International Festival for Artisans, which was organized 11th times and got artisans from 33 Islamic Countries unlike previous years, started with a special opening Turkish paper marbling artisan Hikmet Barutçugil’s work called as “Esma-i Hüsna” which defines names of Allah. Opening ceremony began with Serkan Kamacı and Grup Zuhurat’s Esma-ül Hüsna concert in Mehmet Akif Ersoy Art Centre, Pendik. After the concert, Hikmet Barutçugil informed the visitors about the exhibition. On the other hand, those take part in International Festival for Artisans also visited the exhibition. Foreign guests had taken pictures of artwork and then got information about Turkish paper marbling via album and catalogues had been prepared in English. Mayor of Pendik, Dr. Kenan Şahin stated that he wished this exhibition would contribute to favour within Muslims and coming of a generation that their children will not wash ashore.
Broad Participation to Festival Opening
The festival area witnessed a broad participation in the opening. AK Party’s Istanbul Deputy, Erol Kaya; Mayor of Pendik, Dr. Kenan Şahin; Director General of IRCICA, Assoc. Prof. Halit Eren; and a large number of art lovers attended the ceremony. A group from Mongolia, which present traditional Mongolian music concert, was applauded in the ceremony.

Festival’s collaborator IRCICA’s Director General Assoc. Prof. Halit Eren stated that they were collaborator 2nd time in this festival and added “We are so happy to make contribution to such an important festival that brings traditional artisans from 33 Islamic Countries. I would like to thank Mayor of Pendik Dr. Kenan Şahin and his team for this great organization. I hope that residents of Istanbul and Pendik will benefit from this special festival and pour in festival area to see different arts of Islamic Countries on site.”
Mayor, Dr. Kenan ŞAHİN; “Hope this conduces to unity in Islamic Geography”
Mayor of Pendik, Dr. Kenan Şahin, took the floor after Mr. Eren, expressed that International Festival for Artisans has been carried out better year by year and added “We are looking forward to seeing you in the festival. I hope the festival conduces to unity and solidarity in Islamic geography at the time Islamic world dispersed too much.” After Mr. Şahin, Istanbul Deputy Erol Kaya had a say and thanked Mr. Şahin who organized the event, exhibitors and visitors of the festival.
50 artisans from 33 countries attended
Art lovers poured in stands where 50 artisans not only from Turkey but also from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Algeria, Dagestan, Indonesia, Morocco, Palestine, South Africa, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Malaysia, Mali, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Senegal, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tajikistan, Tatarstan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Oman, Jordan and Yemen had exhibited their traditional arts in the festival.
